Congratulations to Debbie and Billy, our new County Commissioners!

I am Debbie Ponder, a candidate for County Commissioner. I have lived and worked in Madison County all my life. I have served as Mayor and Alderman for the Town of Hot Springs for 16 years and have served on various county committees including the Economic Development Board and the Tourism Development Association. I have also served on the Land-of-Sky Regional Council Board (Region B).

 
I am running for County Commissioner because I love Madison County. I want to help maintain our way of life and protect this beautiful place, while giving all our residents the chance to thrive here. I want to keep our fees and taxes as low as possible by carefully watching our expenses.

 
Community involvement is critical to good government. There will be open discussions at all meetings and I will explain my decisions. My experience will help when working with other boards, agencies, and departments.

 
I will be a Commissioner who listens and does what is best for all of Madison County. I look forward to working with and for you as your County Commissioner.

BILLY ROBERTS

 
My name is Billy Roberts. I am a candidate for County Commissioner. I am a native and life-long resident of Madison County. My wife, Luanne, and I live in Mars Hill. We have three grown sons, who have made it very clear they intend to stay in Madison County. They are part of the reason I am running for County Commissioner. I want to work to preserve the beauty and rich heritage of our county and to closely monitor future growth. At the same time, we want newcomers to feel welcome here.

 
I will work to see the plans for a new jail become reality. We must work to ensure that everyone pays his fair share through efficient tax collection, so that we can continue to provide the best services possible to our residents.
The only promise I make is to be as fair and honest as possible. I would appreciate your support and vote in the November general election.
